Free Sunflower-picking Event at Daphne’s Sirmon Farms Benefits Mission Flights
MONROEVILLE, Ala. (August 25, 2026) — Pilots for Christ, a Monroeville-based nonprofit that provides free air transportation for patients in need, is calling on the community this August and September to help keep its mission flights in the air through the annual Sirmon Sunnies Sunflower Project at Sirmon Farms in Daphne, Al.
This year, sunflower donations will benefit Pilots for Christ in memory of close family friend Rucker T. Taylor, III, who passed away in May 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. During his treatment, Rucker traveled many times to MD Anderson in Houston with help from Pilots for Christ.
The annual “Sirmon Sunnies” Sunflower Project invites the public to walk through the sunflower fields, enjoy the view, and gather sunflowers free of charge. Donation boxes will be placed throughout the farm, with every dollar going directly to support Pilots for Christ. Sirmon Farms is located at 25359 County Road 54 East, Daphne, Ala.
As of August 24, the fields at Sirmon Farms are already filled with thousands of sunflowers—blooming earlier than expected—and are open for picking while the blooms last. At the center of the field, visitors will see the letters “PFC” outlined in golden petals.
“Sunflowers are a beautiful reminder of hope, and this project is our way of giving back to a ministry that has touched so many lives,” said James Sirmon, longtime supporter and volunteer. “We invite families, friends and neighbors to come enjoy the sunflower fields and help support the lifesaving work of Pilots for Christ.”
“For more than thirty years, God has provided for this ministry, and this year we expect to fly more than 800 mission flights,” said PFC Founder Tommy Lee. “As we continue serving patients through alternative transportation, we invite the community to join us as prayer partners and supporters. Last year’s Sunflower Project raised more than $10,000 for Pilots for Christ. This year, organizers hope to raise even more to help keep flights of hope in the air. Donations to the “Be Our Co-Pilot” campaign can also be made online at PilotsForChrist.net.
